Frozen Pipe Repair & Replacement by Alliston & Innisfil, Tottenham, Barrie & All Simcoe County Areas And Nearby Towns

Water has the unusual characteristic of expanding when it freezes. This freezing exerts enormous pressure on everything that contains it, such as plastic and metal pipes. Regardless of how strong a container is, increasing water can cause pipes to burst. Outdoor hose pipes, swimming pool lines, and water sprinkler lines are examples of pipes that are exposed to extreme cold.

Unheated interior locations such as basements and underground spaces, garages, or kitchen cabinets may have water supply pipes. Pipes that run against uninsulated or poorly insulated external walls are susceptible to frozen pipes.

Pipes that are left vulnerable to extremely cold temperatures are more prone to freezing and permanent havoc in general. It is critical to cover your pipes as soon as possible, preferably before the temperature drops in winter season.

Frozen water pipes may create big breaches and disasters if they go undiscovered. A single burst pipe can result in a building losing 4-8 liters of water every minute, costing hundreds of dollars to fix. It is important to take the necessary precautions to protect your pipes in order to avoid such a catastrophe.

How can I keep my pipes from freezing?

Protect your pipes and hoses from freezing before the winter season arrives by following these guidelines.

  1. Drain the water from the pool and sprinkler lines. Unless otherwise specified, do not use antifreeze in these lines. Antifreeze is damaging to the environment, as well as to humans, pets, animals, and gardens.
  2. Hoses that have been used outside should be removed, drained, and stored. Close the interior valves that supply the hose bibs outside. Allow water to drain by opening the exterior hose bibs. Let the outside valve open to allow any residual water in the pipeline to freeze without bursting it.
  3. Basements and enclosed spaces should all be insulated. Insulation will keep these regions at a warmer temperature.
  4.  Look for additional spots around the house wherever water supply pipes are installed especially in unheated regions. Inspect the kitchen and bathroom cupboards, as well as in the garage. It is necessary to insulate pipes in such areas.
  5. Try moving any uncovered pipes to give better insulation
