IBC Tote Mixers are Available in a Variety of Models

Mar 23

Whether for storing gardening tools, stacking firewood or keeping feed and other farm supplies, proper storage can save time and money while making the homestead easier to work on. IBC totes are an ideal solution because they are large, sturdy and have a shipping pallet base so they can be moved by forklift. For agricultural purposes, they can be used to store a variety of liquids and granulated materials such as animal feed, fertilizers, seeds and chemicals.

While IBC totes are great for transporting and storing when its Digital Drive Modes, their cubic shape makes them less than ideal for mixing because it can cause product degradation over time from the movement of the container. However, tote mixers are an easy solution that allow for mixing in the tote, reducing transfer waste and time spent moving fluids in and out of a secondary mixing vessel. IBC tote mixers are available in both lightweight and heavy-duty models, with different shafts and impellers suited to a variety of applications.

Many tote mixers are equipped with a toggle-type control switch mounted in the electrical junction box of the motor, providing the operator with immediate access to the On/Off status of the mixer’s motor. This eliminates the need to open the tote or remove the agitator in order to manually turn off the motor, preventing accidents and injury. For safety reasons, some mixers are also constructed with an interlocking system that prevents the drive from disengaging from the agitator.

IBC Tote Mixers are available in a variety of models, from simple electric to explosion proof and can be powered by an electric, gas or air motor. White Mountain Process specialists can help determine the best construction, type, size and style of mixer based on the specific liquid being mixed, the viscosity (sg and solids %) and the desired results.

For high-viscosity mixtures, the patented non-mechanical air mixing process is a perfect solution. The air mixer uses compressed nitrogen or CO2 gases to mix the liquids in the IBC tank, without adding heat or shear. The result is a thorough and fast mixing process that allows the stainless-steel probe to reach down into corners and sidewalls where mechanical mixers cannot.

In addition to blending and storing chemical and nutrient products, IBC totes can also be used for harvesting rainwater, livestock watering, composting and more. Rainwater harvesting is a practical way to reduce the need for energy-intensive water transportation while ensuring that animals have a constant supply of clean, fresh water to keep them healthy and happy. With a little effort, an IBC can be set up to dispensing rainwater using PVC pipe, a high-quality garden hose or a water pump so that it can be easily delivered to the livestock and other watering locations around the homestead.
